Sonny Bishop, affectionately known as “Bishop” by his family and friends, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the age of 56.
Sonny was born on August 24, 1970, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Irma Vidal Bishop and Arturo Bishop III. He attended Fox Tech High School and remained a proud San Antonio native throughout his life.
Bishop was a loving son, father, grandfather, and uncle whose big heart and generous spirit touched the lives of everyone around him. Family was one of the most important parts of his life. He especially cherished his grandchildren and took great joy in caring for them and helping raise them. The memories he created with his family will remain treasured for generations to come.
Sonny dedicated many years of hard work to his career as a rebar bender with Consolidated Reinforcement Company, where he was still employed at the time of his passing. He took pride in his work and in providing for the people he loved.
Known for his fun-loving personality, Sonny enjoyed family gatherings and was especially known for making some of the best beef fajitas and barbecue. His cousins lovingly called him “Sonny Bunny,” a name that reflected the affection and closeness shared within his family.
Outside of work and family, Sonny had many passions. He loved listening to Rock ’N’ Roll, watching his favorite football teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns, and collecting sneakers. He took great pride in his collection of Jordans, Nikes, and other sneakers, each one cherished as part of a hobby he truly enjoyed.
Sonny will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his love of family, his generous heart, his sense of humor, and the countless memories he created with those who knew and loved him. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his love and the memories he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and granddaughter, Carlina.
Rest in peace, Bishop. You will forever be loved, remembered, and missed by daughters; Irene Flores (Xyion Flores) and Sonya Bishop ( Cyris Flores); grandchildren, Xyion, Xena, Xander, Xaria, Xyro and Juan; and numerous other relatives and friends.
