Mr.Alfred A.Willig passed away on Tuesday, Dec 12, 2006 at 5:45 a.m. after a long battle with cancer. Mr.Willig was born in Tampa, Fla. Sept.5, 1923 and grew up in Mass. At the age of 17, Mr.Willig became one of the “Greatest Generation” when he joined the U.S. Navy and fought proudly and bravely in the Pacific aboard the USS Adair. While in the Navy he met and married his lovely soul mate, Christine F.Wilson of Corpus Christi. After the war the couple returned to Corpus where they raised 3 children. Mr.Willig was employed at PPG Chemical. After his retirement, Mr.& Mrs.Willig moved to San Antonio and retired. Mr.Willig is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mrs.Christine Willig: 2 daughters, Mrs. Carol L. Schmucker of Burke, Va. and Mrs.Kathryn A.Scott of San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his only son, John Willig on May 4, 2004. Mr.Willig has 3 grandchildren, Joseph E.Schmucker, Christopher J.Scott, and Cari Marie Schmucker and 2 great-grandchildren, Brittany M.Scott, and Zachary A.Scott. He is also survived by one brother, Mr.Richard Willig of Mass., and one sister, Janet Paris of Houston. A viewing will be held at Meadowlawn Funeral Home from 5:00p.m.to 7:00p.m., Thurs. Dec. 14th A Graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, Dec.15th at Fort Sam Houston Natl. Cemetery. A small reception for close family and friends will be held at the home of Mrs.Kathy Scott following the funeral.
