Alfreda Louise Lewis, affectionately known by family and friends as “Pumkin,” went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the age of 77. Alfreda was born on November 5, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Esther Marie Clay and Alfred
Elroy Clay. Alfreda was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother whose life was a beautiful example of faith, compassion, and selfless love. A woman of deep and unwavering faith, she believed a strong foundation in Christ began at home.
She faithfully made sure her children and grandchildren attended Sunday School and church, instilling in them the values and teachings that guided her own life.
She was a lifelong and faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she proudly served as an usher for many years. Her warm smile, welcoming spirit, and dedication to serving God & family, and left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Alfreda was also known for her strong work ethic and caring heart. She devoted many years of service in the medical field, working at Santa Rosa Hospital and later as a Certified Nursing Assistant with Mission Road. Caring for others was not just her profession—it was her calling. She touched countless lives through her kindness, patience, and compassion.
Outside of work and church, Alfreda found great joy in caring for her family. She was an exceptional cook and an unforgettable baker. Her homemade fudge, delicious cookies, and beautifully baked cakes brought smiles to every gathering and will forever be remembered and missed by those who were blessed to enjoy them. One of Alfreda’s greatest pleasures was traveling to Las Vegas, where she loved spending time on vacation making treasured memories with family and friends. She also had a remarkable gift for listening and offering words of encouragement. Whether someone needed comfort, advice, or simply a caring ear, Pumkin was always there with love, wisdom, and unwavering support.
Alfreda leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, generosity, and unconditional love that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” and now rests peacefully in the presence of her Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther Marie Clay and Alfred Elroy Clay; husband, Willie Lewis. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her beloved daughters, Tasondra Clay, Willie Jones, and Taska Ware; 4 grandchildren (Carysma Jones, Thomas Clay, Telvin Jones, and Joshua Clay); 2 great-grandchildren and siblings, Paula Carter, Dell Carter, Karen Carter, Annette Carter and Georgia Mae McKinzie; numerous nieces and nephews, church family, and a host of relatives and friends whose lives were forever enriched by her love.
Her memory will forever be a blessing, and her legacy will continue through the many lives she touched.
