Our much beloved mom, grandmother and great-grandmother Alice Janet “MimI” Melish passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob “Jack” Melish; her parents, Alfred and Minnie Eisenbruch; and her brother, Harold Eisenbruch.
Alice is survived by her four children, Karen “Kandi” King, Sandra “Sandi” McDonald, Mark Melish (Diane), and Eric Melish. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Melissa King-Knowles (Kelly), Jay King (Tracey), Ashleigh McDonald (Jaime O’Neill), Krista Mendoza (Daron), Lindsey Melish, and Greg Melish (Sammi). Finally, she is survived by her two great-grandchildren, Callan and Carson Mendoza.
lice was born and spent the first twenty years of her life in New York City. After marrying Jack, she began the next part of her life’s journey as a military wife, living in Florida, Alabama, Germany (twice), Oklahoma, and Texas (twice.). Upon Jack’s retirement, they settled in Universal City. For the next sixty years, she lived, gardened, worked and shopped from that home base, living next door to amazing neighbors for all that time.
Alice has been described the “Redheaded Hot Rod” and that she was! She loved to be on the go, including going to the gym at least three times a week even after turning 90 years old before Covid put a stop to her routine. Her love for animals was vast, including all the birds that came to eat and visit her every day in her backyard. Going shopping with Alice required stamina, whether it was the grocery store or Nordstrom’s!
Above all, Alice loved her family – she loved them to the moon and back. And she was our matriarch who we celebrated each and every day.
The family would like to extend their extreme gratitude to Jennifer, Gaby, Mary, Yoli, the caring folks of Abundant Care Hospice, and the loving folks at Poet’s Walk. You all made the end of her life rich and as comfortable as possible.
The funeral will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 10:15 at Ft. Sam Houston, Shelter 2.
Our thanks to Meadowlawn Funeral Home for their assistance in honoring our Momma.
In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to either the San Antonio chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association to help continue research for dementia and Alzheimers or SNIPSA to help dogs and cats who need love and care.
