Anastacio (Tacho) Lerma Jr., 71, was called to be with our Lord on November 30, 2022. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 20 years, Maria Elena Lerma; along with his 6 children, 5 grandchildren, and 9 siblings. He was a Vietnam, Desert Storm Veteran.
Anastacio Lerma Jr. was born January 1, 1951 in Laredo, Texas to Anastacio Sr. and Paula Lerma. At the age of 17, Anastacio volunteered to serve in the US Navy and began his training in Orlando, Florida (October 1969-January 1970). He was then moved to the Naval Air Station in Atlanta, Georgia (1970-1971). Anastacio was very proud of his time in the Navy and loved the years he spent out at sea. He served on many ships such as the USS Perkins (January 1971-March 1973), the USS King (April 1973-February 1976), the USS Anchorage (September 1973-February 1976), the USS Kitty Hawk (May 1984-September 1987), and lastly, the USS Halsey (January 1991-Jannuary 1994).
Anastacio was also stationed at the Naval Air Station in Lemoore, California (March 1976-September 1978), the Naval Air Station in Kingsville, Texas (February 1982-May 1984), the Naval Air Station in San Diego, California where he served as their Chief of Police on the base (December 1987-December 1990), The Naval Submarine Base in San Diego, California (February 1994-November 1955). He also did a detachment at Fort McClellan, Alabama (October 1987-December 1987)
Anastacio spent most of his life at sea and retired from the Navy as Chief Petty Officer. Aside from his military career, Anastacio was a devoted father. He coached and served as umpire for his Children’s little league baseball team; a sport he loved. After retiring from the U.S Navy, Tacho worked for local landscaping companies as a State of Texas licensed irrigator.
He is survived by his children; James, Christina, Daniel (Rebecca), Dimas (Amiee) and Anastacio III. His grandchildren; Zackary, Mina, Lana, Andrew and Sophia. His siblings; Mary Lopez (Rudy), Aurora Olguin (Tony), Linda Vasquez(Richard), Armando Lerma(Elena), David Lerma, MaryLou Lerma, Rachel Humes, Paula Martini(Matt), and Alex Lerma(Glenda), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Anastacio was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed. Anastacio is preceded in death by his parents, Anastacio Sr. and Paula Lerma; son Andrew Lerma, and sister-in-law; Cindy Lerma.
