October 2, 1936 ~ April 5, 2010

On this day, April 9th, 2010, we gather to celebrate the life and mourn the death of our beloved Angela 'Chavez' Cerda. Angela was born in Mexico on October 2nd, 1936, in the small town of Tlahualilo, Durango. Angela was the daughter of Angel Chavez and Emilia Diaz Chavez. She was raised with 3 sisters and 2 brothers (Maria Concepcion Guerra, Magdalena Varela, Josephina Barnes, Pedro Chavez and Angel Chavez). In her early adulthood, she moved to Del Rio, Texas in the United States, where she was married. She was blessed with 2 children, a daughter Beatrize Emilia Cerda and a son Juan Angel Cerda. While in Del Rio, she worked as a seamstress and supervisor at a blue jean factory for 20+ years. But it wasn't until she moved to San Antonio, Texas where she found her true calling as a healthcare worker and began her career at Northgate Manor. She gave 20 years of devoted service that gave her a great deal of pride and satisfaction. She is survived by her daughter Beatrize and son-in-law George Martinez, her grandchildren Rocky and Katherine Martinez, and great grandson Alexander Andrade. Her surviving siblings are Maria C. Guerra, Magdalena Varela with husband Gumercindo S. Varela, Josephina Barnes and Pedro Chavez with wife Gloria Chavez. 'For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings'
