Arleen Pledger was born on February 11,1962 in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina to Wallace Blue Sr. and Emma McCrimmon, who raised her with love, strength, and unwavering support. From a young age, she displayed a vibrant spirit, a kind heart, and a natural ability to bring joy to those around her.
Whether it was her infectious laughter, her caring nature, or her ability to turn any moment into a cherished memory, she was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She attended W.W. White Elementary, Riley Middle School, and she graduated from Sam Houston High School, where she excelled academically and built lifelong friendships. A hardworking and ambitious individual, she worked for the San Antonio Housing Authority for 15 years where her dedication and passion left a lasting impact on colleagues and clients alike. She was deeply committed to her work, always striving to make a difference, spending countless hours volunteering, and striving to leave a positive mark on the world. So much so, The San Antonio Housing Authority created and named an award in her honor, known as the “Arleen Richardson Volunteer Award”.
Beyond her professional achievements, Arleen Pledger was a woman of many passions. She found joy in being a Mary Kay Saleswoman, she loved and frequented many Spurs games, she also loved to craft, and she loved to shop with her sisters, and nieces. Whether she was taking her grand kids to a park, picking them up from school, or stopping by just to hang for a bit, she was always eager to share her talents with those around her, and she kept a bag of activities with her. Regardless of what she was creating, or what sport she was watching, or hanging out with her loved ones, she embraced every experience with enthusiasm and love.
More than anything, Arleen was devoted to her family, church, and friends. She cherished her relationships and was a source of strength, laughter, and unwavering support to those who needed her. Her love for her spouse, children, grandchildren, siblings, and many other family members knew no bounds. She took great pride in being a loyal wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her husband Rodney C. Pledger, sister’s Barbara Knotts-Jones (Kenny Jones), Ernestine Nelson (Billy Nelson), Michelle Durham, daughter Shawana Pinkerton, son Dontae’ Pinkerton (Tamara Pinkerton), bonus daughter, Brianne Walker (David Walker), grandchildren Jai’Lyn Wynn, Paul Wynn Jr, Zaniah Bullock, Chloe’ Clark, Kaiden Pinkerton, Leah Berry, London, Lauren, Luke, and Levi Walker, and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Emma Blue, brother Wallace Blue Jr., and Grandmother Luvenia McCrimmon, whom we take comfort in knowing welcomed her with open arms. Though the pain of her loss is overwhelming, we find solace in the memories she left behind.
Her spirit will live on in every shared story, every echo of laughter, and every act of love inspired by her example. We will forever carry her in our hearts.
