Born in Gulfport, Mississippi, on July 2, 1949, to the parents of Willie Mack Simpson and Delaura Simpson Coleman. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Henry Coleman. After meeting in high school, Barbara married her husband, Joe L Berryman, in 1965. After serving in the Vietnam War, they moved to San Antonio, Texas.
Barbara gave her life to Christ at an early age. She began singing at age 6, but often sang in the wrong tune. So, her mother suggested she join the Little Rock Baptist church children’s choir. She then joined Shadow Low Baptist Church choir and also served as Sunday School Secretary. Barbara united with Emmanuel AME Church in 1971, where she served as a steward under the late Drinkard Timms Sr. She was a faithful member of the Senior Choir and the Women’s Day Co-Choir.
She completed her Education in San Antonio, Texas, attending Healy Murphy Learning Center and St Phillips College. Earning an Associate Degree In Business Administration. She also attended Texas Lutheran College, earning additional credits.
Employed by Bank of America for thirty-nine years, Barbara served as a Personal Banker and Assistant Branch Manager. Barbara also served as a Foster Parent for twenty-three years. After she retired in 2009, she felt there was more she could do, so she entered the workforce again. Employed at The Center for Health Care Services, working in the Children’s Mental Health Division.
Barbara worked as a Certified Family Partner for sixteen years and retired in December 2024.
Preceded In Death: Joe L. Berryman (Husband), Willie Mack Simpson (Father), Delaura Coleman (Mother), Quinnie Kennedy (Sister ), and Donald Lee Coleman (Brother).
She leaves to cherish her memories, Her Son Gregory Berryman, and his beloved Wife Tasha McIntyre-Berryman, Daughter Tanya Berryman, & Husband Nemiah J Edwards.
Her Beloved Sisters & Brothers, Joseph McGee, Bishop Benjamin Simpson, Lonnie Coleman, Genevia ( Lottie ) Corbett, Joeann Dunn, Lucy Lyons, Denotra (Lynn) Coleman, Robert Lee Coleman, Bruce Coleman & Shannon Coleman.
Her four adoptive children, Dustin Jordan, wife (Vanay Craig), Dimitri Jordan, Nathan Roque, and Chelsea L Roque, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives, and friends.
Grandchildren: Courtney A Edwards and husband (Messiah Craig), Chancellor J Edwards, Nakita Guillory, Nakesha Hardin, Rodney Bremby, Jayden Jordan, Nahla Jordan, MyLayla, Maniyah, Makiya, Genesis, and Genelle Jordan.
She will be greatly missed by all of us who had the pleasure of knowing her, and the love she shared will continue to live on in our memories forever.
