Bessie Lee Lacey, lovingly known as Granny, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 29th , 2012.
Bessie was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Pruitt of Alabama. She was born on July 25th , 1925 and died in San Antonio, at the age of 87. She grew up in Pratt City, Alabama, the youngest of six children, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. She lived most of her adult life in Birmingham, Alabama. Bessie was married and had one daughter, Ruby Laverne. In Birmingham, she was a member of the 25th Ave Baptist Church for more than 40 years.
In May of 2003, Bessie "Granny", came to San Antonio to live with her grandson and family where she joined Maranatha Bible Church. She attended regularly and was a member of the Esther and Ruth Sunday School classes and the BSF Wednesday Bible Study in New Braunsfels. Granny spent her days enjoying the companionship of her little black Chihuahua, reading her bible, watching her soap operas, talking to her daughter in Iowa, and cooking her favorite recipes for Michael, Karen and her great-grands, Michelle, Jeffery and Sean. She would always welcome guest at our table since she made sure there was always plenty to eat.Â
Bessie is survived by her daughter, Ruby L. Chieves (Lucious) of Ames Iowa; nieces: Nettie Jackson (Reginald) of Atlanta, Georgia and Angela Bailey (_____ ) of Birmingham, Alabama; nephew: Andrew Pruitt ( ________ ) of Birmingham, Alabama; grandsons: Romeo Smith (Beth); Michael K. We thank God for the gift of love that He gave us through Granny. We will miss you while still in earth but will rejoice when we meet again in heaven. Always abiding in the truth of His word, The Brown’s.
