June 23, 1945 ~ March 23, 2016
On the night of March 23, 2016 at approximately 10:00 P.M., Linda "Carol" McCallen (Picket) passed away at University Health Center as a result of a head injury suffering a fall at her son's house on March 17, 2016. Carol was 70 years old. Carol was born in the town of Norman in Cleveland County, Oklahoma at 1855 hours (6:55 P.M.) at the US Naval Hospital on June 23, 1945. She was the third child, and second daughter, of Charlotte Jessie and Glen Goodwin Picket. Carol is survived by her three children two sons and one daughter; Roni Skeen of Long Beach, California, Jason Meckel of San Antonio, Texas, and Zechariah "Zech" McCallen of Petaluma, California. She is survived by two sisters Kathy Klutz and Sue Ray and one brother, Cecil Picket. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Summer Jensen of Cushing, Oklahoma and Darren Leon of Long Beach, California. Furthermore, she is survived by her two great grandchildren, Jayden Jensen, and Preston Jensen of Cushing, Oklahoma. Carol was very proud of all three of her children and their accomplishments.Even though Carol never made it through high school, she did earn her GED and as a result, attended Nursing School but did not graduate. A friend told her that she probably saved many lives by not graduating from Nursing School. She often found humor in that statement but she did touch many peoples' lives during her lifetime. Carol was a very independent person. She worked as a Beautician and Housekeeper most of her life. She took great pride in her work as she was meticulous to detail. Carol was very frugal and thrifty and wasted little money. Often times she would forego her own needs to help others. Meeting and getting to know people was one of Carol's greatest pleasures in life. Carol often made friends on a daily basis and brought much joy to the people she knew. Carol loved to tell jokes to everyone she met. Carol was much like Will Rogers She never met a man she didn't like. Her son Jason requested a small and informal funeral as he believed this would be the wish of Carol. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her care at University Health Center, San Antonio, TX.
Arrangements were provided by MeadowLawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, San Antonio, TX. A warm thank you to both Rev. Bill Shockley and the Funeral Director, Mrs. Miriam Garcia for their assistance and services.
