Born in:
Mexia, Texas
Resided in:

Carrie was born June 14, 1920, in Mexia, Texas. To William Carter Sr & Josephine Brown. To this union born, five sons & five daughters. Carrie was the fourth girl born to this family. She moved to San Antonio at an early age, where she met and married Andrew James Burleson. Two daughters were born into this union, Barbara Jean & Betty Jean.
Carrie united with Harper Chapel Baptist Church in 1942. She gave herself into many church ministries (Communion, Sunday School Teacher, President of Women’s Mission, Usher Board) until her health began to fail at 94. Carrie lived for God & His Word. You could ask her about anything about the Bible, and she could tell you where to find it in the Bible. Carrie continued her church service at Harper Chapel until she turned 98.
One of the things that Carrie enjoyed was working in her yard. Every day she would be working in her yard. People would ask her about her garden, and she would reply, “This Garden belongs to God.” So, Carrie’s garden was a place where she would talk to God. She worked at Robert B Green Hospital until she retired.
Carrie was a mighty warrior for God, and many considered her a virtuous woman, a loving Mother, and a beautiful and caring friend. Carrie truly loved all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she is survived by Sister Addie Mae Palmer (Austin, Tx), Daughter Betty Johnson Thompson, Grandchildren: Phaedra Siddiqui, Tanja Michelle Payton, E.D. Johnson aka Ernest (Teresa), Stephanie Bell, and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Brother William Carter, Loyle Carter, Jodie Carter, Floyd Carter; Daughter Barbara Payton; Grandchildren, Shelton Payton, Clayton James Johnson, & Michael Anthony Johnson and Husband Andrew James Burleson.
