Catherine Davis Long was born May 11, 1923, in San Antonio, Texas to the late Herbert and Mishia Davis. On March 15, 2014, God called our beloved Catherine home to eternity. She was the fifth of five siblings; all of the above preceded her in death.
She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age at St. Paul Methodist Church, in San Antonio, Texas, under Rev. Warren. Later she had membership at Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she served with the Voices of Praise and the Conference Choir. Her last membership was with Emmanuel A.M.E. Church until illness prevented her attendance.
Catherine's public school education was in San Antonio, here she attended Cuney Elementary, Douglas Jr. High and Phillis Wheatly High School, graduating in 1940. Her higher education included studying at Arkansas A&M in Pine Bluff Arkansas, Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and St. Phillips Junior College.
Catherine was employed in various jobs. She was the first black cashier at downtown Carl's Clothing Store. Later she was employed as a clerical worker at Texas Commerce Bank (later known as Chase bank) until her retirement. Catherine also worked part-time for Urban Communication (Informer News).
Catherine was blessed with one daughter.
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Ruth Ann Johnson Meullion (Harold); granddaughter, Taffi Roberts Glasco (David Sr.); three great grandchildren, Amber Glasco, David Glasco, II and Jaelin Glasco; one great great grandson, Depaul Glasco; one nephew, Leslie Word (Norma); one niece, Jerry Durham of Pasadena, California and a host of great nieces, nephews and friends.
