Cecelia A. Hill

cecelia hill

November 20, 1939 ~ December 31, 2022

Born in: Gonzales, Texas
Resided in: San Antonio, Texas

Mrs.Cecelia Ann Hill was the second child of seven children born to George Norwood & Myrtle Beatrice Dismuke in Gonzales, TX. Her parents and two sisters, Sandra Kay Vaughn and Patsy Jane Dismuke preceded her in death. Cecelia received her education in the San Antonio School System graduating from Phillis Wheatley High School where she was a majorette.

Cecelia accepted Christ at a very early age and was baptized at New Light Baptist Church. She was also a devoted member at Damascus Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Greater Love Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully in the GLMBC choir and GLMBC Mission One. She also participated in the Citywide Revival and Baptist Minister’s Union choirs. Cecelia loved her church family and her pastor, Rev. L.J. Gillespie, Sr. He called her his cheerleader.

Cecelia married her high school sweetheart, Howard Brown and they were married 35 years to which 5 children were born. She later married James Hill who preceded her in death. James took care of her until his health started to fail.

Cecelia was so outgoing and full of life. She was the life of the party. She learned how to play the piano at a very early age. Cecelia had a passion for music, dancing and singing in the choir. Most of all, Cecelia loved God. Even as her health started to fail, she would still dance and sing her gospel songs.

She was a homemaker and raised 5 children for several years before she decided to go out into the working world. She took great pride in taking care of her family, ensuring home cooked meals were on the table each night, except Saturdays, which was saved for Luby’s at McCreless Mall.

She was employed with the Methodist Healthcare System for over 30 years as an Admitting Clerk. She loved meeting people. There were times when former Spurs player David Robinson’s mother who served as a volunteer at the hospital would come looking for her so that they would have lunch together.

She leaves to cherish her memories daughters, Debra Jefferson (Bryant) of Cibolo, TX, Cheryl Bacon (Gary), Carolyn Coleman (DeWayne) of Fulshear, TX, Terri Govan (Jay, Jr) and son, Howard Brown, Jr. (Nicole) of Helotes, TX, grandchildren Jacy Jefferson (Carla) of Las Vegas, NV, Jay Govan, III (Jessica), Brandy Jefferson of Cibolo, TX, Kenitra Lumpkin (Micheaux) of Killeen, TX, Darian Coleman (Houston, TX), Brandon Govan, Treshayla Brown (Cincinnati, OH), Corey Govan and Bryshanna Brown, great grandchildren Jordyn, Dominique, Destanee, Adriann, Kendall Jefferson, Stiles Allen, Mya, Cora and Grant Govan; siblings, George Dismuke Jr, Bettye Murphy, Charles Dismuke (Mary) and Sheila Dismuke Williams, a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown in righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them that love His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8

  7. CandleImageDear Brown and Dismuke Families,

No matter what church we are affiliated with, we will always be New Light babies. Cecelia, a New Light baby, was a Christian woman inside and outside. She was beautiful, very fashionable, and loved to sing. I will always hold on to the wonderful memories that I shared with the Dismuke daughters. Praying for you all to have peace and strength at this time. Another New Light Baby has gone to see Jesus. Amen.
    Love you all. Be Blessed!

  8. To the family of Cecelia,
Our sincere prayers and deepest sympathy are with you. There is no doubt that she has joined the Christian Band of Angels in heaven and is singing in the heavenly choir. She will be remembered. Be Blessed!
