Born in: San Antonio, Texas
Resided in: San Antonio, Texas

Danny l. Mason, Sr., born November 12, 1948. Parents were Joley G. Mason, Sr., and Lenora Mason in San Antonio, Texas.

Growing up Danny had a passion for dogs and got a dog name Patsy. Danny’s love for dogs continued as he grew up. He also love tending to the cows at his parent ranch. His parents would take him and his brother and their kids to the ranch all the time. Danny also road horses for fun over by Joe Louis Street and played baseball on the corner of Foster and East Houston back in the day.

Danny attended Dunbar JHS, Brackenridge HS, St. Phillips Junior College and Texas State University. Danny was drafted into the Army (Big Red One, 1st Infantry) and served in the Navy Reserves before graduating from Texas State University. While at St. Phillips Danny sung with the Walker Ford gospel singers under the directions of Oscar Ford, who is currently a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Danny had a beautiful deep voice and could play the trumpet too. In college Danny was also active in the Black Student Union. In those day (60s) segregation and the Jim Crow Law was prevalent in the South and all over the US.

After the college days and serving in the US Army Navy Reserves, Danny had several jobs, some of which were, Turbine, CPS and landed a good job with Fort Sam as an electrician and Kelly AFB as an electrical foreman. Afterwards, he work for the Housing Authority then later retired.

Danny worked hard and played even harder. If he wasn’t at his favorite spot, Tuckers’, then you could find him in the country tending to the ranch. He loved to tend to the cows then lay down on the back of his truck and look at the stars gleaming in the sky.

Intentionally left blank……this part of his life YOU who knew Danny can put in your own memories about Danny….have fun.!!

Then he met his current wife, Paulette. Ironically they (Danny and Paulette) met on May 5th, many years ago and, this is the same day of Danny’s Home Going. After dating for almost twenty years, Danny and Paulette decided to marry in February of 2002. They both had two children from a previous relationship. Danny Jr. and Danielle (Danny side) and Jamar and Candace (Paulette’ side). Danny and Paulette have one son together, Joseph Mason.

Danny was a very sociable, lovable, handsome, intelligent and a disciplinary person and, “Paulette loved all of him, the good and the bad, no matter what the people said about him.” “Danny and Paulette had forty something wonderful years of dating and in marriage.”

In June of 2016, Danny became sick and fought through heart surgery and many other illnesses throughout the last seven and 1/2 years. The Lord called Danny home on April 14, 2023..Danny finished the race, no more pain, no more suffering and no more crying, may your Soul rest in peace until we meet again. We love you and will truly, truly miss you. Amen!

  5. Ours prayers are with the Mason’s family during these difficult times. I recall stopping by the Mason’s homestead on Delgado St. to collect Mrs. Mason insurance premium. 10. Just a note to convey my prayers, and condolence to the family of my friend… “Danny-Boy.” I shall forever remember his humor, and loyalty to friends. A real competitor on a football field, YET, a kindred kindness for all, masked behind, a facade of toughness.

Rest well Mr. Mason… I’ll see you in the morning. I remain Respectfully Yours…. Ju
