Donald Craig Speer, Sr., passed away peacefully on August 31, 2026, at the age of 92. He was born on September 28, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas, to Nina Ester Ellen and Charles Robert Speer. A lifelong San Antonio native, Donald was proud of his roots and cherished the life and memories he made with his family and friends. A proud graduate of Sam Houston High School in 1952. He stayed true to his loved Cheekees his whole life.
At the age of 18, he began working for the U. S. Postal service on the Postal trains. After “slinging” many postal bags, he retired in 1986 as the Quality Control Officer of southwest Texas.
Donald was a kind, generous, and giving man who was always willing to lend a helping hand or to tell you how to do the job. He had a generous heart and found great joy in making others feel cared for and loved. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—hunting, cooking, sharing the best barbecue in San Antonio and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
Of all the joys in his life, his family held the most special place in his heart. He especially treasured his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, affectionately enjoying every moment he could spend with his “grandbabies.” His love, wisdom, laughter, and generosity will remain a lasting part of the memories his family carries with them.
Donald leaves behind his beloved children, Bambi Lynn Speer (Jill Brown), Melony Glynn Speer, and Leslie Gwyn Speer; his grandchildren, Charles Douglas Speer (Leonor Dorrego Speer), John Anthony Speer, and Crislyn Dene Speer; and his great-grandchildren, Troy Andrew Speer and Madison Georgina Speer. He also leaves behind many other loving family members and dear friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and generosity.
Donald will be deeply missed, but his memory will live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy is found in his family, in the traditions and stories he shared, and in the love, he gave so freely.Rest peacefully, Donald. You will be loved, remembered and you will be so missed Poppo!
