“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3: 5-6
Donald Keith Smith, known affectionately as “Keith,” “Papi,” “Keefy,” and “Smitty,” entered this world on June 15, 1960, in Los Angeles, California, as the third child of Jonnie B. and Yvonne Kelley Smith.
Keith’s journey of faith began early, leading to his baptism at New Light Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Crenshaw High School in 1978, marking the commencement of a career that included roles in the Los Angeles Unified School District, Northeast Independent School District, and the City of San Antonio. His dream of traversing the country behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler became a reality during his tenure with Coldliner Express
Trucking Company.
On May 8, 2000, Keith became a member of New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a member of the Usher Board. He enjoyed the full privileges of his membership. A gentle and peaceful soul, Keith touched the lives of those around him.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Yvonne Kelley Smith; father, Jonnie B. Smith; daughter, LaTanya Yvonne Smith; brother, Brandon Todd Smith; and nephew, Marvin Lavon Lee, Jr.
He is survived by his daughters LaToya Smith-Sims (Terrell), Niecy Nicole Bush; grandchildren, Malik and Isaiah Sims; Emonie Wilson, Justin Hamlin; sisters, Felecia Y. Smith, Deborah Smith Lee (Marvin); brother, Carlos B. Smith; nieces, Jada, Jaelyn, and Britni Lee; aunt, Mae Etta Adams; and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
In honoring Keith’s memory, let us remember the warmth of his spirit and the lasting impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in eternal peace.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7
