August 28, 1937 ~ August 22, 2013
Donald W. Toler (Popi) beloved husband, father, and grandfather was welcomed home by our Heavenly Father on August 22, 2013. Born on August 28, 1937 in Marlin Texas, Don was the youngest son of Homer Toler and Pearl Toler Moore. Don often shared stories about all the lessons he learned while working in his Dad's store Toler Grocery in Marlin. Don and his older brother Jimmy were best friends and entertained family and friends with stories of their boyhood antics.Don enjoyed serving in the United States Air Force, working as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and later working at the State Capitol in Austin, Texas. He retired from a rewarding 33 year IT career with the United States Army Civil Service at Ft. Sam Houston in 1993. The Toler men all shared a passion for lake fishing. Don realized a long held dream come true when he purchased a lake house on Lake Corpus Christi in 2002. In addition to fishing, he loved spending time with family, watching the Dallas Cowboys play and eating a good chicken fried steak smothered in cream gravy. Don married the love of his life, Dora Pineda on May 13, 1978. Dora lives in San Antonio along with daughter Lisa, her husband John Lange and grandson Joshua. Other family includes Faye Toler, niece Lori and husband Stuart Holle, nephew Larry Toler, great nephew Aaron Toler, L.R. Pineda, Sheila Bayles, Freddie Pineda, Norma Montemayor, Alex & Constance Pineda, their extended families and numerous cousins. Special thanks to Dr. Ulmer and the staff of the START Center, Dr. John Dickson, Dr. Socrates Aramburu and Odyssey Hospice. The memorial service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Cornerstone Church 18755 Stone Oak Parkway in San Antonio, Texas. All all miss Don. God Bless all his family and friends..
Dora this prayer was sent to me when my Mother passed away, it made me feel better. Hope it does the same for you. God bless and your family.
God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be
so he put his arms around you
and whispered,
“Come to Me”
With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
and although we love you dearly
we could not make you stay.
A Golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
Dora, my daughters and I are very sorry to hear of the passing of Don. God blessed you with a wonderful man. He is in heaven in all his glory with God. You and all the family are in my prayers. All my love, Elena
Dora I am so sorry to hear of Don’s passing. He and I were friends for many years. We were lucky to be together during our work career. I thought of him often and even though we didn’t see each other the friendship was always there. Thank You for notifying us. God bless you and family.
