Doris Jean Gale went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the age of 83. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on November 30, 1939, to the late Tretford and Dorothy Williams. She graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School class of 1956. She accepted Christ at
a young age. She joined Ernest T. Dixon United Methodist Church under Rev. Germaine Mathis, and she and her husband were large contributors to the Food Pantry. She later joined and was currently a member of Huntleigh Park Baptist Church for many years under the guidance of
Reverend Johnnie Guyton.
Doris enjoyed her morning coffee with her late husband, Albert. After his passing her son Darrell continued the tradition and cared for his mom until her health required professional medical assistance.
In her younger years she enjoyed crafting and ceramics. She loved sewing, and you could always find her playing POKENO with friends. Doris enjoyed water aerobics and joined the “Frog Ladies” at the Davis-Scott YMCA for her exercise. This is where she met her longtime friends Renae L.
Robinson and her brother Herbert R. DeGruy III “Chuck.” In 2009, she and her Cousin Elizabeth A. Blackwell went with Renae’s family to Washington D.C. as her father was honored by President Barack Obama. This was Doris’ first time ever flying on an airplane and she was super excited,
she had the best time. They later formed a group called, “Coffee Club,” and would enjoy trips to
different cities and enjoyed coffee.
Doris was truly a social person and when she became a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant, she loved sharing her beauty secrets. Doris truly loved her family, and all her extended family. She never met a stranger! Anyone who knew her, knew that her favorite time of year was Christmas!
Doris was placed under the care of Mrs. Georgia Grant, owner of “Gifted Hands Home Care,” in January 2023. She was well cared for and loved, and became fast friends with now 21-month-old, (as she affectionally called him}, “Little Man.” The entire family loved her and was loved by her.
Abundant Hospice staff loved Doris also, she was visited by Social Worker, Angela Sanchez; Chaplain, Spring Petersen, RN, Ashton Balyeat; CNA Sylvia Araujo, Vanessa Cantu, Danielle Campos. Marketer, Michelle Balero. This team stayed in constant contact with the family three
times a week to update them on her care.
Doris will be truly missed. She is preceded in death by husband, Albert Gale; her son, Harold J. Harris; her siblings Telford Williams, Jr., affectionately called Junior Boy and Odessa Marie Williams. Her niece that was like a daughter, Mrs. Kenitra Barton who preceded her in death
four days prior to Doris’ passing. She will be dearly missed by her son, Darrell E. Harris; grandson, Paul E. Lawson; sister, Barbara Thomas and her best friends, Renae L. Robinson and Herbert R. DeGruy III, “Chuck”; numerous, cousins, nieces, nephews, loved ones, Mary Kay Sisters, and friends.
