Dorothy Jean Johnson, 80, passed away December 8, 2023. She was born March 27, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas to Mable Pettus and Charlie McIntosh Jr. She was the oldest of five children. Dorothy was a young mother and with the help of the children’s grandparents she was able to overcome any obstacles that came her way. She resided in Houston, Texas and was very active in her church, Church Without Walls. She volunteered any opportunity she had and loved being part of her church community. Dorothy retired as an LVN; she loved it. She went back to school (online classes) and completed a master’s degree in nursing, while in her 60+ years of age. One of her dreams was to teach nursing in a classroom setting.

Dorothy was the life of the party. She lit up any room she walked in. She was always smiling, always full of happiness and joy. She marched to the beat of her own drum. Dorothy loved to dance and have fun, especially when she was able to do that with family. As a grandmother, she loved to give advice to each one she come in contact with. Her joyful soul and charisma will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her son, Theodore Jones Jr.; granddaughter, Shawvonn McGarity; sisters, Elizabeth McIntosh and Sandra McIntosh.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 40 years, Albert Johnson; children, Tonie (Alfred) Duke, Anthony (Renee) Moreland, Ronald (Renee) Moreland and Renee Churchill; two sisters, Myrtle McIntosh and Charles Louise McIntosh; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

  1. CandleImageMrs. D was not only my student because I tutored her in Algebra but also a friend. We met at The Church Without Walls Bingle Campus during small group Bible study – needless to say we were fast friends and I enjoyed her company, our tutoring sessions and phone dialogues. She loved her children deeply and was passionate about enjoying laughter. I will miss her and the joy she brought.

I love you and your family! My deepest condolences 💐.

    Sincerely,
    🌹Taiese L. Nevels 🌹

We light this candle to honor You—and to ask that like an unquenchable flame, our family would be enveloped by your grace and the light of Your truth.

We pray for your favor, and that our family would reflect Your light and know your love, as we strive to live for You.

Please protect our family, we pray.

    Amen
