Earl Allen Metts

earl metts
Earl Allen Metts, a decorated veteran retired with honors and distinction, passed into the Lord's hands on February 28, 2011 at the age of 70. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Earl leaves behind his wife Frances Boyle Metts, and his oldest Daughter Allison Metts Reichenau, his son Alan Metts, and his youngest daughter Alana Metts-Smith. Earl has five grandchildren ranging in ages from 23 years down to 4 years of age, and has always been instrumental in helping to shape these young lives. Earl is also survived by his one sibling sister Sandy Metts Ritter. Earl has many cousins and friends that he leaves behind, and through each and every one of these family and friends he continues to live on in all of our memories. Earl had spent 21 years active duty in the United states Air Force. He did his tours through Vietnam during that war, and had many other overseas tours keeping him from the family he loved. He felt compelled to serve his country, and did this valiantly, and received many honors and ribbons for his meritorious service. He chose retirement over an advancement, and decided to return to his loving family. His next career began at Brooks Air Force Base working on the Air Force Health Study project, Ranch Hand II, and served in this capacity as a Civil servant. He completed that study, by serving another 23 years in government service. Earl completed his career by becoming a government contractor working on the Air Force Mortality registry for another 5 years at the now Brooks City-Base, when he was medically retired after working a combined 49 years. In all of his career, he was involved with shaping young men and women of the Air Force as he was growing himself, and he touched and impacted many lives with his military prowess, and ever expanding knowledge, and freely passed onto those he came into contact with, and shared this knowledge with the compassion he specially possessed. This continued on in his other careers, and he impacted many lives with his friendship. When not working for the government, and the United States in some capacity, he spent his time with his family he greatly loved, and fostered that love with his time and attention. Earl was a Mason and lodge member, and a Shriner, and participated in the Patrol unit in support of his local temple. Earl and Frances were known widely across the great state of Texas, and the nation, and were frequent participators in exhibitions of dance in the form of Clogging and were members of the international travelling group, the Cadence Cloggers. Earl and Frances were also known for their square dancing, and were members of the Alamo Area Square and Round Dance Association (AASARDA) and performed at many local, and outlying areas. Earl was social, active, and gave freely of his time, talent and expertise, and served in offices from Secretary to the position President of the AASARDA. Donations may be made in honor of the memory of Earl to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude for your outpouring of love, blessings and well wishes.
