Earl Sylvester Pruitt 82, peacefully entered rest with the Lord on April 8, 2023. Born on July 11th, 1940, in Corpus Christi, Texas and was raised by loving parents Aaron Sylvester Pruitt Jr and Orine W. Pruitt. He attended Phyllis Wheatly High School and graduated in 1959, San Antonio, TX where he met and married Corine Perryman in 1960. To this union 3 children were born: Aaron, Janet and Cheryl. Later, Earl met and married Charlotte M. Strickland in 1985, and became the stepfather to Aaron W. Strickland.
Among his honors were; Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster; AF Commendation Medal ; AF Good Conduct Medal with six oak leaf clusters ; AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon with five oak leaf clusters ; National Defense Service Medal ; Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon ; AF Outstanding Unit Award ; AF Overseas Service Long Tour Ribbon ; American Defense Service Medal ; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal ; AF Presidential Unit Citation ; Good Conduct Medal.
During his service he earned a Master of Social Work Degree in 1987 at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio Texas. He was a licensed Masters Level Social Worker (LWSW). He continued his long-standing military service as civilian employee of the United States Air Force in various capacities for 18 years.
During his time of service, he was a lead singer for the Tops in Blue Air Force band and also sung professionally. He was a music lover as music was his heart. He also enjoyed traveling, cooking, dancing and entertaining family and friends including his Phyllis Wheatly HS Alumni. Earl supported his Community by supporting young students interested in pursuing a college education. He worked at Ella Austin Community Center, where he wrote grants to obtain additional funding for the center which impacted the Community.
Earl is survived by his beloved wife of over 38 years Charlotte Pruitt, his 3 children; son, Aaron Pruitt, (Diane); daughter, Janet Bailey, (Robert); daughter, Cheryl Williams, (Larry); and step-son, Aaron W. Strickland, (Juanita), as well as 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Visitation will begin Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Meadowlawn Funeral Home from 5:00pm-7:00pm. Funeral Service Monday, April 24, 2023 at 11:00am at Meadowlawn Chapel with Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.
