November 3, 1953 ~ April 17, 2007
Edward Wayne Henderson was born to Edward Henderson and Gwendolyn Gafford on November 3, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas. He was the oldest of four children and considered a very hyperactive child. Wayne, as he was called by friends and family, attended Highlands High School where he graduated in 1971. He then persued the occupation that fulfilled his need to help others by joining the San Antonio Fire Department. After being injured in a fire, he was forced to retire after over 10 years of service. Athough Wayne had to retire from the fire department, he continued to fulfill his need to help other by working for Calab, Inc (an assisted living facility) as a house manager until the time of his death. Wayne had two loves of his life; his wife and his religion. He met his wife Diane Colvin in 1973 on a blind date and later married her in 1997. The love they shared was respected by all and envied by many. Wayne was introduced to Nichiren Buddhism in 1989 and became a member that same year. Wayne's steadfast faith, strong dedication, and tedious commitment to his religion quickly earned him the nickname 'Super Buddha' and awarded him the position of area leader for the San Antonio area SGI-USA. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Diane Henderson, brother Ronald Henderson (Janet), two sisters, Anita Christopher (Christy) and Jennifer Owens (Richard) of Houston, Texas, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
