Mr. Elmer Wesley Tilghman Jr., age 90, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026. He was born on December 11, 1935, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Elmer Wesley Tilghman Sr. and Laura Tilghman.

Elmer lived a life marked by dedication, service, and kindness. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for six years, demonstrating his strong sense of duty and commitment. Following his military service, he built a long and honorable career with Southwestern Bell, now known as AT&T, where he worked diligently until his retirement.

Elmer was known for his joyful spirit and warm personality. He had a remarkable ability to connect with others and truly got along with everyone he met. Intelligent, outgoing, and generous, he carried himself with humility and a giving heart. His presence brought light and laughter to those around him, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion.

He is survived by his loving children, Roderick Tilghman, Jock (Matresa) Tilghman, Lisa (Joery) Smittick, and Benita Vanderpool; his cherished grandchildren, Roderick Tilghman Jr., Jessica Irene Tilghman, Rachel Ashley Tilghman, Eric Tilghman, India Shephard, Nicole Tilghman, Jock Tilghman Jr., Shannon Almes, Amber Burkhart, and Joye Smittick; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Elmer was preceded in death by his beloved son, “T-Boy,” and daughter, Teonn; his parents, Elmer and Laura; his devoted wife, Fellaneze Tilghman; and his former wife, Leola Tilghman.

He will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, his wisdom, and the love he shared so freely with all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
