Freddie Lee Jacobs

freddie jacobs
Freddie Jacobs was born to Bennie Louise Solomon Jacobs and Ambrous Jacobs, Sr. on December 8, 1946 in the East Texas city of Henderson. In 1951, the family left Texas and moved to Seaside, California. In Seaside, Freddie started kindergarten at Noche Buena Elementary School. She attended Fremont Junior High and Monterey High School. In the early 1970s, Freddie moved to San Bernardino, California with her two young sons, Jason and Damion. In San Bernardino, she enrolled in a nursing program and became a licensed vocational nurse. Not long after receiving her license, Freddie returned to Seaside and began working for the Monterey County Hospital in Salinas, California. Later she relocated to San Jose, California where she lived and worked for ten years before moving back to her native state of Texas. After moving to San Antonio, Freddie took classes in nursing and creative writing and continued her nursing career. She was a hardworking, faithful, and compassionate caregiver. She worked for one family for more than ten years. Freddie became a member of Grady Memorial Church of God in Christ. Her community became family; she loved people. She was friendly, loads of fun, had an infectious laugh which she shared often. She was also witty, intelligent, and insightful enough to hold a meaningful conversation with anyone. Freddie was a fabulous swing dancer and, like her parents, she was a great story teller. Reading was her greatest indulgence and she used the knowledge she gleaned to entertain her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She believed in investing time and energy in the children around her, not just those in her family but the children of friends and acquaintances who might need some fun or an adventure. It was not uncommon for Freddie to open her home to a family who needed a place to stay. She was not selfish with her home or her time. Freddie was a giver of the most important resource we have - time. She helped take care of her mother who lived with Alzheimers for twelve years and cared for her stepfather in his last days. Soon after her mothers death, Freddie succumbed to Alzheimers and lived with the disease for the last nine years of her life. Freddie is preceded in death by her father Ambrous Jacobs, Sr., mother Bennie Smith, and stepfather, Willie Smith. She is survived by her son Jason Jacobs (Shiree) San Antonio, TX; son Damion Jacobs (Dawn) Puyallup, WA; brothers Ambrous Jacobs, Fayetteville, NC; Billy Jacobs (Helen), Florence, SC; Richard Smith (Barbara), Prescott, AZ; sisters, Cinda Brea (Julio) San Antonio, TX; Lessie Solomon Smith, Fayetteville, GA; Martha Robinson (Arlee) Fayetteville, GA; stepbrother Willie Smith, Greenville, MS; grandchildren Jevon Jacobs, San Antonio, TX; Alisha Roston (Allante) Puyallup, WA; Tamera Jacobs, San Antonio, TX; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
