Mrs. Freddie Merle Stewart also affectionally known as “Ricky”, Aunt Ricky and Granny Ricky was the matriarch of her family. She was born in Mason, TX on August 1, 1932 to Plum and Viola Mulkey.
Freddie’s formal education began with acceptance into St. Peter Claver (boarding school) in San Antonio, Texas and ended in Brownwood, Texas. She became a member of St. Peters Baptist Church in 1965. She was also secretary for the Daughters of the Elk, Girl Scouts troop leader, volunteered to collect donations for the American Heart Association and she loved to sew. Freddie’s sister (Mitzie Lawson) introduced her to the love of her life, Granville J. Stewart. Mitzie later served as a witness to the marriage of Freddie and Granville on December 11, 1964. Freddie and Granville were best friends who were blessed with 51 years of marriage (until Granville’s passing in 2015). They loved traveling and hosting family events. Freddie was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a domestic engineer with a calling in caring for family (including her ailing parents and siblings). She raised a blended family of 7 children: Johnny, Jimmie, Jackie, Ronnie, Jacklyn, Karen, and Denise. She was also a loving supporter to her stepdaughter Nova. Freddie’s love and support also impacted the lives of her sister’s (Mitzie) 10 children (Sidney, Janice, Dwight, John, Walter, Jackie, Gail, Cheryl, Ray and Michael); niece, Ann; granddaughter, Shauntee and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. On January 7, 2023, at the age of 90, Freddie entered eternal rest surrounded by her family. Freddie is preceded in death by her husband MSGT (USAF) Granville J. Stewart; sons, Johnny, Jimmie and Jackie Dixson, and siblings; Gillie Mulkey and Mitzie Lawson. Freddie leaves to cherish her precious memory, children: Ronald Stewart, Jacklyn Ambeau, Karen Bailey, Nova Clayton, and Denise Johnson-Stewart; siblings, JoAnn McIntosh and Plum Mulkey Jr, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to our many extended family members and friends. We thank you for your kindness and sympathy during this very difficult time.Services
