May 8, 1949 ~ April 16, 2022

Born in: Edna, Texas
Resided in: Selma, Texas

George “Abear” Woodson Hebert I, returned to his heavenly home peacefully on April 16,
2022, in Selma, Texas. He was born May 8, 1949, to the late James and Lucille Turner
Hebert in Jackson County of Edna, Texas. He attended school in the Edna Independent School
District where he graduated from Edna High School in 1968. After proudly graduating from high
school, he went on to attend Southwest Texas State University.

Hebert accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Shiloh Baptist Church in Edna, Texas. Once
making San Antonio his home, he became a faithful and active member of St. Paul United
Methodist Church where he participated in various ministries which included Finance Secretary,
Feed My Lambs Food Pantry, United Methodist Men, the Pace Setters, and various other
committees. Also, he was a Mason of the Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias of Texas as a member
of the McKinley Lodge No. 110.

In 1975, Hebert graduated from Culver-Stockton College with a degree in Business Administration
and continued his studies at Webster University where he earned his Master of Arts degree in
Management and Human Relations in August of 1981.

Hebert married the former Brenda Lynn Campbell Bolden of San Antonio Texas. The two were
one another’s lifelong companions and friends. He had one son, George Woodson Herbert, II, and
three stepdaughters, Michelle, Keisha, and Komeka.

Hebert honorably served 20 years in the United States Air Force before retiring as a Master
Sergeant. In the Air Force, Hebert had the opportunity to travel worldwide and did two
deployments in South Korea at Osan Air Force Base and Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico.

Once retiring from the Air Force, he made it his mission to work various jobs to provide for his
family. In Houston, Hebert worked in Harris County as a Records Manager Assistant from 1991
to 1996. He also worked other jobs as a Staff Service Officer, Deputy Clerk IV, and later retired
as Chief Deputy Clerk for Court of Appeals First District of Texas in 2012.

Among Hebert’s accomplishments, he played an active role in church photography, taught Bible
courses, and was a member of the Administrative Council. He was a faithful servant of God who
was always willing to go beyond the call of duty. In other words, if something in the church needed
done, Hebert was the one to call on.

He enjoyed filling his free time with reading, bike riding, and listening to music. He took any
opportunity to visit state and national parks to capture beautiful memories and snapshots of his
family and the scenery with his camera. He found joy in spending quality time with his wife,
children, and grandchildren.

He joins other loved ones, parents, James and Lucille, sister, Tonda Hebert Rogers, and grandson,
George Winston Hebert III in eternal rest.

Hebert leaves to cherish a lifetime of wonderful memories with his wife Brenda “Babydoll”
Hebert, his only son, George Woodson Hebert, II (Tonya) of Houston, Texas; three stepdaughters,
Michelle Knowles of Scottsdale, Arizona, Keisha Bolden Stevenson (John); Komeka Bolden
Williams (Roy) both of San Antonio, Texas; his brothers, Ralph Hebert (Claudia), Larry Hebert
(Laura), Charles Hebert, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, in-laws whom he loved
dearly, nieces, nephews, numerous relatives and friends.

    Juliette Green and Family.

  2. CandleImageHeartfelt condolences are extended to Brenda and family during this very difficult time. Rick and I will fondly remember “Abear”. We will keep you close in thoughts and prayers. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

  3. CandleImageEarth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. A patriarch who took care of his family and always gave back. Abear will remain in the mind and hearts of those he touched, and there are many. After his military retirement, whenever I had a chance to speak with him, I would always tell him how well he looked. His answer, “I owe it all to my wife.” To Brenda, may the love of family and friends carry you through your grief and find comfort from knowing that God draws close to the broken-hearted.

  4. To Brenda and family, I pray that the Lord our God bless you right now. Fill you with increadible peace, and wrap you in his Love. Nothing feels better than knowing God loves You, that God is always there for You. And that God will always take care of You.

  5. CandleImageOur deepest condolences to Brenda and the family. May God comfort you through this difficult time and give you peace as you remember precious memories and know that “Abear”is always with you❤️. He will be missed by so many. 🙏🏽
