SSgt. George Alfred Williams, Sr. USAF retired, affectionately known to family and friends as “GW,” peacefully went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the age of 90.
George was born on January 1, 1936, in Jefferson, Texas, to the late Victoria and Johnnie Williams. From an early age, he displayed a love for music and athletics. Growing up, he sang in the church choir and was a naturally gifted athlete who excelled in every sport he played. His passion for sports continued throughout his life, including during his years of service in the United States Air Force, where he proudly competed in athletics. Even into his fifties, George remained active in sports, and after his playing days ended, he enjoyed giving back to the game as a basketball referee.
George proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSgt.) after 20 years of dedicated service. Following his military career, he attended St. Philip’s College and went on to build a successful career in Civil Service, retiring from Logistics after many years of faithful work.
To his grandchildren, George was lovingly known as “Grandpa.” His signature dimples were one of his most recognizable features—a treasured family trait shared by only a few relatives—and brought smiles to everyone who knew him.
George loved spending time with his friends, whether fishing, or sharing stories and laughter. He was an accomplished and passionate pool player, serving as President of his pool league, where he was respected not only for his skill but also for his leadership and friendship.
 George was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys. His enthusiasm for “America’s Team” was contagious, and before long, many of his family members proudly became Cowboys fans simply because of him.
George will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his service to his country, his love for family, his competitive spirit, and his warm smile that was made even more memorable by his famous dimples. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, laughter, and cherished memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Jean Williams; son, Keith Williams.
George will be dearly missed by his children, BarbaraAnn Johnson, George Alfred Williams Jr. (Carolyn), Shari Williams, Victoria Robinson (Kelly), Teresa Williams, and Kenneth D. Williams; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Ella Bullard; brother, Thomas Williams.
Though he has departed this earthly life, his love, wisdom, and example will remain with his family forever. We rejoice in knowing that he has gone home to be with the Lord, where there is eternal peace.
Visitation will begin Friday, August 7, 2026 at 11:00am with Chapel Service to follow at 12 noon at Meadowlawn Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery with United States Air Force honors.

  1. CandleImageTo The Family: Mr. G. W. is truly missed. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to be around Mr. G. W. while watching him shoot pool, dancing, spreading laughter and kindness wherever he went. He always spoke highly of his family and would say, “I was like a daughter to him”. My maiden name is Theresa Williams. He said, I reminded him of his daughter (Teresa). I had a chance to meet Teresa and she was kind also. I was always excited to D J for Mr. G. W. birthday parties whether on the West Side, Mustang Lounge or Skinnys and to play for the old school and West Side gatherings thar Mr. G.W. put on to bring people together. I will continue to pray for the family and ask God to give you all what you need to make it through these tough times. Mr. G. W. “Lived” his life to the fullest. He did not let anything hold him back. That is what I remember and hope we all do in our lives. GOD BLESS!
