George Charles Smith

george smith

George Charles Smith was born on November 04, 1960, to Charles and Wanda Smith at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska. His childhood surrounded time with his family traveling to Turkey, California, Germany and San Antonio with a military father. He enjoyed hobbies such as football and scouts, working on merit badges with his father. He was the quiet obedient son who learned quickly to stay out of trouble by doing what he was told. He sought to look after his brother and sister to the best of his ability. He emulated his father and joined the military at 18. After separating from the United States Air Force in August of 1982 he went to work for Ray Ellison building homes. He then went to work as a bricklayer to include stone and marble mason, and tile laying. He worked as a marble layer at SeaWorld in conjunction with laying tile at the River Center Mall Lagoon. He then decided to take a job in flower delivery followed by a convenient store manager. Over time his disabilities became more severe until he lost his leg, but he never lost his heart for laughter and enjoyment in life. He was an avid reader and chess player.  You could almost always find him enjoying a book. He departed from us on August 09, 2023.

George is survived in death by his parents Charles & Wanda Smith from Ft. Clark Springs in Bracketville, Texas. Brother, Schell Smith from Atascosa, Texas and sister, Toni Abdelkhaleq of Fuquay, North Carolina. Nine Nieces and nephews who were near and dear to him. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and one nephew Titus Smith. Many times he was asked why he never got married and he always responded the same way, “I see what married couples go through, and no thanks, it’s not for me.” He was always a good listener and had a way of showing others they were valued. He avoided judging people and showed empathy towards so many. He had a hard time telling others no when it came to donating towards several charitable organizations. George will be greatly missed by those who knew him yet the dash between his date of birth and death will live on in the memories of those who love him.

Guestbook

  1. My prayers to his family…especially his mom and dad…it was the three of them for so many years and that bond makes this more painful, but the memories that live on in the hearts of the family that added to memories at get togethers on special days are there to treasure! God carry those who loved George through these difficult times.

In Christ’s love… Bob Gomez and family
