gerry basista

January 20, 1946 ~ July 26, 2024

Born in: Charlotte, North Carolina
Resided in: San Antonio, Texas

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend, Gerry Lynn Basista, entered eternal rest on the 26th day of July in San Antonio, Texas. He was 78 years of age. Gerry was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 20, 1946 to John Basista and Ruby Waugh.

Gerry met the love of his life, Jane Dixon and the two shared a beautiful union of 57 years, raising their three daughters together.

He had such a loving spirit and a love for books. As an avid reader, he was always surrounded by reading material and made many visits to the library, or just in the comfort of his home. Gerry also enjoyed traveling with family and professionally for work. He was dedicated to his role as a Vice President in the Lighting industry, where he proudly served 4o years until he retired.

Gerry’s legacy will continue to live on through his family and close friends.

Although he is at rest, we will forever cherish his famous life philosophy:

“Today will be better than yesterday, but not as good as tomorrow.”

Gerry is preceded in death by his parents and his fur babies.

He leaves to cherish in his memory, his beloved wife, Jane Basista, his loving daughters: Amelia Basista (J.P. Stonestreet), Anna Basista, and Alison Basista (Leslei Murray); his only granddaughter, Madeline Basista, and many other close relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Gerry’s life will be held at a later date.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Gerry.thoughts and prayers. Gerry and I were not only coworkers at Lightolier we were friends. I will always be grateful to Gerry for all he did at Lightolier for the company and for believing in me at the company. Lightolier would not be what it is if it wasn’t for Gerry and all his hard work. Still til this day Gerry’s name comes up in conversation. I was just talking about him last week saying how I needed to call and check in on him. When Gerry left Fall River we had a “Staples button” we would hit the button and it would say “That was easy” it sounds just like Gerry.
He loved his family and his fur baby Jake. His pride and Joy Madeline. The glow in his eyes when he spoke of her was always priceless. Madeline you know me as the lady from Fall River that would leave a message on grandpa’s answering machine. I hope the memories you have help you get through this difficult time. Rest In piece Gerry you will always be remembered. Kelly

  3. Jayne,
Sorry to hear of Gerry’s passing. He was such an important contributor to CW Lighting’s(Houston) success. Gerry was our go to guy to get the job done-we referred to him as our bulldog and he came thru for us countless times!
I was not aware you were living in San Antonio ; I am just down the road in Kerrville and could certainly help you if needed.

  4. Beautiful family! I am just getting this terribly sad news. Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of Gerry. I was reminiscing with an industry friend who shared this news & our memories are of the laughter we shared. Gerry was my first boss in the business in 1991 & here I am almost 35 years later still working in it! May all your treasured memories bring peace to all of you!! Xo
