Gladys Hopkins-Menefee was born July 13, 1956 in San Antonio, Texas to John Robert White, Sr. and Gladys Tommie Hazel. Gladys attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School, Edgar Allen Poe Junior High School and graduated from Highlands High School in 1973. She received many degrees at San Antonio College and St. Phillips College. Gladys was very active through her walk in life starting in school were she was great in sports, she ran track and played softball to name a few. She started her career with the San Antonio Public Library and continued on to City Public Service shortly after college. Gladys loved helping people so she took on a task with the San Antonio Housing Authority where she meet and helped many. She also was a mail carrier for U.S. Postal Service for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. At a young age she attended Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, became a devoted member and worked with many of the auxiliaries. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior early in life and was an active member until her illness would not allow her to attend. Gladys was also an active member of Martha Chapter 2003 OES for many years until her health would not allow her to attend. Gladys leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Edmond Jerome Menefee; his three children, Edmond Jerome Menefee, Jr., Unique Menefee, Emmanuel Menefee and two grandchildren, Trinity menefee and Maria Menefee; her sister, Ormazell M. Rudley (Robert) of New York; a brother, Charles Ray Mackey (Mary); three daughters, Laurel J. Hollins, Leslie R. Green (Tommie) and Latricia T. Miller (Edward); six grandchildren, kali Rashaad, Kaliea Rashaad, Isaiah White, Iesha White, Zachary Taylor, Zariah Gibbons, Brian Hopkins and one great grandson Isaiah White, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephew and many relatives and friends. Gladys was proceeded in death by her parents, John Robert White Sr., Gladys Tommie Hazel and her brothers, Leslie J. Mackey and John Robert White, Jr. (Bobby)
