I did not know Glenn until a friend encouraged me to become involved with TREDDA. My favorite memories with Glenn would be visiting with him while working at the TREDDA garage sales. What a great sense of humor he had! May he rest in peace with La Quita now.
I met Glenn at a blackjack table in Las Vegas where we spent hours having fun, drinking Makers Mark, and telling dirty jokes. I made sure my husband met him the next day, and we’ve all been good friends since. He was one of the most honorable, caring individuals we’ve had the pleasure of calling a friend. We’ll always remember the great trips we had to Vegas and the fun we had at the Stardust tournaments. He had a special way that warmed the hearts of everyone that knew him, and because of the wonderful person he was, he’s left us all with many beautiful memories. Goodbye, friend, you will truly be missed(so will all your emails) Pidge and Ron
Like Pidge and Ron, I met Glenn in Vegas. We were BJ tournaments/ email buddies. I was also a teacher, and we often told teacher war stories. Some made us laugh and others made us cry. Glenn was kind, loving, generous, funny, and a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He will be greatly missed by those of us who were lucky enough to have had him in our life for any period of time.
I was a dealer at the Stardust when I met Glenn many years ago. He was an absolute delight. I enjoyed his e-mails as well. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. May you rest in peace Glenn. Bronxie
To the Family of Glenn Porter: We offer our condolences on the loss of your father and our friend. When I met Glenn, he was the Director of Purchasing. I was greeted by the strongest handshake that I have ever experienced. He had a tough, no-nonsense educator’s approach to school business. Glenn had many interests, but the one that impressed me the most was his knowledge of San Antonio school history. He would interview people and even go to cemeteries in his search for data. He was a good resource person for the school district historian. His creative mind also sent him to research TRS files in Austin and lobbied for changes in the formulas. With the founding of TREDDA, he found a means of uniting educators in helping their own. We shall miss you Glenn. Eloy and Mandie Arguello
Patrick and John, My sincerest condolences on the passing of your father. May he rest in peace for all eternity in the presence of our Father in His kingdom.
Glenn won my heart when I was a young girl as he shared the secret that he loved Snoopy, too. His was always the 1st Christmas card that any of us got!! I will cherish the memories I have of him and all the stories my dad told me about their escapades. I had the privilege of babysitting his two adorable sons for years! Glenn served as a much needed sounding board for me throughout my 27 years of teaching in SAISD. And he helped my family as our next door neighbor through many, many hard times. We couldn’t have made it without him. I will miss him deeply and hope he finds that big casino in the sky!
Mr Porter was my homeroom teacher at Horace Mann .I was in the first class he ever taught in 1955-56.I have the honor of being the first class president of his first homeroom class.I feel honored to have been in his presence from that beginning. He was a no nonsense instructor and got us to respect him. I will never forget Mr Porter.
Thank you so much for the kind wishes and thoughtfulness shown our father. We enjoyed seeing many of you at the Memorial Party last weekend. The donations to TREDDA in his name are greatly appreciated. Our old man touched a lot of people in his life and he loved a great number of you very much. We loved him and will miss him too.
