Grover “G.C.” Cleveland Riley II departed this life on May 24, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 76. GC was born on May 19, 1948 to Grover “G.C.” Cleveland Riley I and Evelyn Marie Riley in San Antonio, Texas. G.C. was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother who was cherished by his family and friends.
G.C. grew up with his brothers on the westside of San Antonio where he attended Jefferson High School and eventually married his high school sweetheart, Barbara. G.C. and Barbara were blessed with two children, Brandon and Dawn. During this time, Grover was called to serve in the United States Army, worked for VIA as a bus driver and later dedicated over thirty years to Southwestern Bell/AT&T. Grover was a member of the CWA, local chapter #6143 labor union for over 30 years. During his precious time on Earth, G.C. formed many life-long, enduring friendships.
Grover accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was a dedicated member of Memorial Baptist Church for more than 70 years where he faithfully served as a Deacon, as Financial Secretary, in the choir, and any other capacity needed. Grover will be remembered fondly by his church family. Memorial Baptist Church is also where he met his loving wife, Yvette. They enjoyed 8 years of union until the Lord called him home.
Grover enjoyed singing, bowling, shooting pool, watching movies, engaging in crossword puzzles. He was known for his athleticism, his laughter and ability to light up a room with his smile. One was sure to know that G.C was fond of you, when he gave you a nickname and he LOVED to express how proud he was of his children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Cleveland Riley I and Evelyn Marie Riley and brothers Don Edwin, James Earl and Glen Eugene Riley.
Grover is survived by his wife, Yvette Riley, his son Brandon James Riley, daughter Dawn Marie Riley; three grandsons, Romell Breon Riley, Zachary Jacques Brown, and Benjamin Grant Barnes and step-grandchildren, Tasia and Lauren Reed, Charles and Cameron Cobb, Shariah, Ron and Raheem Williams; aunt, Jolee Shelton, and a legion of cousins, nieces and nephews, loved ones and friends.
G.C. Will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to those he loved, his service to God and his country and his successful career. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
May his soul rest in Heaven’s Glory.
