Hildereane Bridges, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on April 4, 2023, at the age of 82, in San Antonio, Texas.
Hildereane was born on February 22, 1941, in Gonzales, Texas, to parents Lincoln and Novella McAfee. She was the oldest of six siblings and grew up in a loving household. After becoming a nurse in San Antonio, Texas, Hildereane worked for more than 50 years caring for patients in several hospitals including the Baptist Hospital, State Hospital, and Home Healthcare.
Over the course of her career as a nurse, Hildereane touched the lives of countless patients and their families, providing them with the care and support they needed during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. She was known for her gentle touch, her calming presence, and her unwavering commitment to her patient’s well-being.
As a woman of faith and a devoted mother, Hildereane raised five children that meant the world to her. Throughout Proverbs 31, we are told of a woman of far greater value than rubies: she created the perfect example for us to follow. Despite being a single mother, she worked tirelessly to provide for her family and overcame challenges. As a result, her children are successful, loving, and respectable members of society.
Hildereane’s favorite pastimes were traveling, cooking, shopping, going to see a play, hanging out with her many friends, and decorating her house with her favorite things. She was an avid home cook, constantly trying out new recipes and hosting get-togethers for friends and family. She loved nothing more than bringing people together over a delicious meal, and her warmth and generosity was felt by all who knew her. Fashion was one of her passions, and dressing up was something she enjoyed doing every day. Additionally, she was involved in various businesses, including Home Interior Decorating, Amway, and Mary Kay.
Hildereane Bridges is preceded in death by her parents Lincoln and Novella McAfee as well as her oldest son Harry T. Wilson Jr., aka PeeWee.
She is survived by her former husband Harry T. Wilson, and her children Karen Scott (Sinclair), James Wilson (Waldy), Kenneth Wilson (Angelia), Michael Wilson (Erica), Jessica Zeno, her brothers Lincoln McAfee, Charles McAfee, Eddie McAfee, her sisters Annie Harrison, Virginia M Hillard, her grandchildren Brandee, Christopher, Anika, Serenity, Stephanie, Donyea, Kenny, Daniel, Shuri, Kendall, Alisha, Aliah, Mickey, as well as her great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews who will miss her deeply. Her memory will be cherished by those who knew and loved her.
She was the matriarch and pillar of the family. Rest in heaven Hilda.

Grandmother
I’m so sorry I could not attend. My heart broke when I learned you had passed. We didn’t get many times together but I always felt your love when I was with you. I always aspired to be a woman of your strength and tenacity. You made being a single woman and a single mother, look easy; no easy fear. You should me that women can be strong and have nice things all by themselves smh for themselves with the support of the Lord and through hard work. In so glad I asked for your greens recipe those years ago. That is something I will always have with me. I miss you. Thank you for being an example to many women.
Rest forever in the presence of the Lord
