Irene G. Alaniz passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, June 3, 2023 after a long courageous battle with Breast Cancer. She was born January 23, 1952 in Tilden, Texas to Tomas and Jesusa Garcia. She worked in the food industry for many years with the San Antonio Independent School District and Kelly Air Force Base. Irene was always smiling and would do anything for anybody without hesitation. To some she was known as “NANNY” as she helped friends take care of their precious babies, she loved them all dearly. Being Antonio’s biggest fan, she always showed up and supported Antonio in all his sports events proudly. Irene loved a good game of any BINGO, loved her pick 3 and scratch off lottery tickets. She would stop at any yard sale finding her “collectables”. She loved to cook and bake and always wanted to try new recipes and collected cook books galore! Irene always put others first and all her loving caring ways will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Tomas and Jesusa Garcia; sister, Juanita Delgado; nephew, Thomas Robert Garcia; great niece, Rebekah Sheelar and son-in-law, Carlos Maldonado. Irene is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Jose B. Alaniz Sr.; son, Jose Alaniz Jr.; daughter, Christina Maldonado (Richard) and her One and ONLY grandson, her pride and joy Antonio Jose Peralez; her sister, Olga Garcia; brother, Tommy Garcia (Cindy) and her loving nieces and other relatives and friends.
The Alaniz family would like to give a special thanks to all her medical care team, WellMed-Dr. Claudia Cala Morales and Deana Patek, Oncology San Antonio-Dr. Syed Raza, Angelia Berkowitz, FNP, Treatment Nurses/Tech- Christina, Melissa and Mateo, Carvajal Pharmacy and Circle of Life Hospice. A heart felt gratitude for all the loving care they provided for Irene.
My mother suffered silently, and smiled so no one could tell. So if you see me smiling today, know my mother taught me well.

We’re deeply sadden by Aunt Irene’s death. So glad I was able to see her one more time. Really.
She most definitely will be missed
But remembered very fondly
My Auntie Irene, was a kind. Generous person. She was very hospitable.
When Roger and I visited, She would make delicious meals one our favorite was her beef stew. It was delicious!
I learned to make it also, cook it often. My two sons also appreciate that particular dish.
She also took me to 2 concerts in San Antonio.
David Cassidy and The Osmond Brothers!
So happy for that experience.
Irene had such an adorable smile. Those dimples. Yeah!
And that cute laugh as well.
It was wonderful to have know her.
She was blessed with a sweet, kind
beautiful family as well
xoxo
