Irene Mitchell

Irene Mitchell answered the Master's call to "Come home" on November 21, 2013 at the age of 93 years old. Irene was born February 5, 1920 in Carthage, Texas to Isaac and Creola Paige Wallace. She grew up in Panola County and attended the public schools in Carthage. In 1937 she met and married Edgar Mitchell. In 1958 the family moved to San Antonio, Texas where she resided until her passing. Irene dedicated herself to raising twelve children and two granddaughters. She was a loving mother and grandmother but raised her children with a stern hand. Her home was where family gathered for holidays and Sunday afternoons. She was an excellent cook and her meals were enjoyed by all. Irene was also known for wearing hats, she went everywhere with a hat on even if it was just stepping outside she would have one on. Irene Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Johnny Wallace, Son Wallace and Howard Wallace; husband, Edgar Mitchell; three daughters, Joyce Ann Jackson, Idella Mitchell and Hattie Calloway; two sons, Stephen Mitchell and Howard Mitchell and her son-in-law, James Green. Her memory will be cherished by her sons, Edgar, Oscar, Lynn and Ricky Mitchell; daughters, Audrey Green, Deborah Hall-Reed and Doris Boatman; two granddaughters whom she raised as her own, Vickie Wilkins and Andrea Washington; daughters-in-law, Frances Mitchell and Linda Mitchell; sons-in-law, Gerald Boatman, George Reed and Gerald Wilkins. Special memories will be cherished by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
