James Bryant Chesser, better known as 'Runt', was born in Northeast Texas on October 28, 1931, in the small farming community of Union Chapel to James Howard Chesser and Elendor Draper Chesser. He was the oldest of three children. He had a younger brother John Draper and sister Martha Robin. He spent his youth in the same area and later attended Texas A&M University to graduate as a civil engineer. After a short military service, J.B. began a long career with H.B. Zachry Construction Company where he accumulated many friends and became an integral part of the growth of San Antonio and the surrounding area. Jim was married to Linda Kay Underwood in 1963 and together they had two children -- Carrie Lorraine in 1964 and Howard Bryant in 1965. James Chesser is survived by his sister, ex-wife, children, nieces, and a nephew. James Chesser passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2006. A memorial service will be held at the MeadowLawn Tribute Center on Sunday, November 5, 2006 at 1:30 pm. A gathering for friends and family will follow afterwards at the Chesser Hill home. He will be deeply missed by many whose life he touched.
