Resided in: San Antonio, Texas

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our precious friend, sister, and aunt, Janice Katherine Brake. Janice was born in Pearsall, Texas on Dec. 7, 1949, to Ora Hart Brake and Joe Earl Brake, Sr. and passed into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior on Monday, March 27, 2023.

Janice was known for making deep connections with people, pets, and nature.  Everybody loved Janice and Janice loved everyone. Janice was a peacemaker, an animal rights activist, and an avid reader remembered for her kind, gentle spirit, gracious manner, and sweet smile. She was loyal, kind and generous, and had a quiet strength.  Janice tirelessly supported animal and human rights and was a guardian angel to hundreds of fur babies throughout her life. Janice spent her professional life as a world class secretary and executive assistant most remembered for her work with Dr. Jimmy Allen, former pastor of First Baptist Church of San Antonio. She also worked with the Southern Baptist Convention, Incarnate Word, and Trinity University where she made treasured friendships. She loved country music, and dancing with her beloved Jerry.

Janice leaves behind a legacy of great compassion and love for humanity. The world will never know a kinder spirit. She is now reunited with family and hundreds of cherished pets. Her legacy will be with us always. Rest in Peace our precious love.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joe Earl Brake Jr., and sister Judith Elaine Marino. She is survived by the love of her life, Jerry King, sister JoAnn Cupps, and brother Douglas Moore Brake, along with nieces Natalie Marino, Lisa Vaughan, and Rhonda Ankilewitz; nephews Stephen Ross, Phillip Johnston, and additional cousins, nieces and nephews.

Guestbook

  1. Janice was a beautiful, kind person. I can’t say enough nice things about her. She was a guest in my home and such a joy. She brought gifts and sent thank you notes, just extremely thoughtful. I saw her love and admiration for my dear friend Jerry King. Together they had so much fun. She fit right in wherever she went. What a blessing to have known her. We are praying for her family.

  2. Jim and I are so sorry to hear about the passing of Janice. She will be missed by everyone she knew, she was such a kind person to everyone she met and we all know she never met a stranger. Sure wish I had gotten to hug her one last time. Till we meet again, RIP.

  3. So very sorry to all who loved Miss Janice especially Jerry and her family! God bless you all! 🙏

  4. CandleImageOn behalf of the residents and staff of The Village at Incarnate Word, I offer our sympathy to Jerry and all of Janice’s family and friends. We continue to build upon and benefit from her work of so many years ago. May God grant you peace and strength as you journey toward Heaven, where you will meet her again.

  5. Janice, was an angel on earth. She was the sweetest woman I have ever had the privilege of knowing. I loved working with her at Brookdale and we shared a passion for cat advocacy. I know she reunited with many felines in Heaven.

  6. My sincere condolences to Jerry King and the family of Janice Brake .
May the Lord continue to comfort each of them as they grieve the loss of their loved one .
Ms Janice was a very gentle and a kind hearted person who willingly helped animals and those in need. May she rest in peace until we all meet again.
