Jesse S. Leija, Jr., age 80, was called to be home with the Lord on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. He was born to Genoveva Barron and Jesus G. Leija, Sr. on February 20, 1939 in San Antonio, TX. In his early years he was a boxer who was in Golden Gloves Boxing and won many championships. Jesse enjoyed boxing and loved coaching his youngest son James and nephew Louie. He was inducted into the San Antonio Boxing Hall of Fame in 2014. Jesse was retired from the Methodist Metropolitan Hospital as a Maintenance Supervisor. He enjoyed fixing things and painting pottery. Jesse was always helping others, but above all loved his family dearly. He is preceded in death his parents; sister, Aurora L Hernandez; brothers, Eddie Leija, Louis Leija, Samuel Leija, Tony Barron. Jesse is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Connie G. Leija; daughter, Genevieve L. Perez (Jesse); sons, Jesse Manuel Leija, James Leija (Lisa), Joe T. Leija (Mary); grandchildren, Jennifer Michelle Perez, Pamela Perez, Jackie P. Bononcini, Jeremy Jesse Leija, James Leija II.(Annia), Dean Leija, Delilah, Genevieve, Christopher, Eric, Kelani; great granddaughter Vanae Ora Leija; brothers, Joe Leija Sr., Paul Barron; sisters, Delia Hensel, Pauline Rosas, Genevieve Marin; numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins. His family would like to extend their gratitude to the Embrace Hospice: Mariella, Hector, Avery and staff; his nephew, Raymond Hernandez (Mary Lou) and Jay for their compassion and support during his final days. He will be deeply missed by family and all who knew him.
