Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Joyce S. Dykes, peacefully entered eternal rest on August 15, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born to Charles Harrison Smith and Minnie Ingram in Atlanta, Georgia on April 15, 1935. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, GA in 1953.

Joyce accepted Christ at an early age. Joyce was a woman who strongly believed in her faith, stood strong on the word of the Lord, and always maintained her relationship with God. She joined Emmanuel AME Church, where she remained a member until her homegoing.
Joyce met and married the love of her life, Walter M. Dykes. The two shared a union of 49 years wonderful years together. Joyce was also known as a woman of class who always appeared well-dressed. Her image and confidence were always very important to her, and she carried herself as such. She enjoyed her life to the fullest.

Joyce will be forever cherished in our hearts, and her physical appearance will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was greeted in heaven by her parents, and her daughter: Charlene Jones.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Walter M. Dykes, her loving daughter: Carol Daniels of Katy, TX, stepdaughter, Ingrid Mathis of Richmond, TX; 4 grandchildren: Michael (Priscilla) Edwards of Cibolo, TX, Joy Hamilton of Katy, TX, Robert Hamilton, of Dallas, TX and Maya Daniels of Katy, TX, As well as 5 great- grandchildren, Kesean, Darius, Isaiah, Charlese and Kenzie whom affectionately called her “Memama,” her brother: George Ingram of Atlanta, GA, her sister: Leona Ingram of Atlanta, GA, and numerous other close relatives and friends.
