Julia Jo “Judy” Banks was the first daughter born to the union of Martin Buford and Naomi “Muggin” Carrington-Banks on February 12, 1945 in Austin, Texas. Judy attended St. Peter Claver Academy, Cuney Elementary, Douglass Jr. School, and St. Phillip’s College. She worked as a waitress at Blunt’s Tavern for many years and Downtown Baptist Hospital as a Certified Health Unit Coordinator for 39 years. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. G.C. Coleman at Friendship Baptist Church. Julia joined Lilly of the Valley Missionary Baptist Church. She was baptized again on May 23, 2004 by Pastor Steven R. Owens, Sr. She was the President of the BTU, member of Senior Mission and Sunday School, and remained a faithful member of Lilly of the Valley Missionary Baptist Church until her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Naomi Banks; grandparents, Walter and Josephine Carrington; son, Kerry Wayne Banks; sister, Faye Jewel Dukes, brothers, Martin Banks Jr. and Mitchell LaRue Banks; two great-granddaughters, Ariyana and Janell Banks. Judy leaves to cherish her memory three children; Cynthia Annette, Allen Eugene, and Jacqueline“Jackie” Yvette Banks; grandchildren, Kerry (Ashley), Karen, Julian (Alexandra), Danielle, Jaila, and Amaris Banks; great-grandchildren, Donnell, Jayson, Ariane, Vanessa, and Xavier Banks; niece,; Michelle Banks of Austin, Texas, Michelle Banks Brock, Ramona Dukes; nephews, Tukiso “Tuki” Banks and Martin “Marty” Dukes; cousins, Sharon Burleson, Deborah Spence, and Eddie Alcorn; life-long friends, Theresa Bremby-Missouri and Cora “Sis” Davis and a host of other relatives and beloved friends.
