Katherine Josephine Palmer passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the age of eighty-five. She was born on April 7, 1938, and grew up in Spokane, Washington where she played violin in Junior Symphony and livened up Doll Shop productions at North Central High School. After studying at Washington State University, she married Dwight Palmer in 1958. As they began their family and Dwight entered the Army, his career in military and private helicopter aviation took the family to Alabama, Oregon, and Arizona. Katherine thrived on family, friends, and fashion while working in insurance, real estate, and retail. After raising their three children, Katherine and Dwight retired to Tucson, Arizona where they had a home business supplying snacks to small shops. In 2007, they moved to Kerrville, Texas, where Katherine volunteered and worked in resale shops part-time until age eighty-four. She loved wearing jewelry with pizazz and holding great grandbabies. Katherine never met a baby she didn’t call “darling.” After Dwight died in 2011, Katherine joined a Kerrville support group of widows that gradually became a “fun bunch” who enjoyed weekly dominos and dessert. When Katherine’s health took a turn, she spent her last days at Fredericksburg Nursing and Rehabilitation. Katherine was a loyal friend of Bill W.
Katherine was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years (Dwight); her daughter, (Erin Palmer Sunday); her parents (Fred and Ethel Moran); her sister (Fredene Allison) and brother (James Moran). She leaves behind sons Michael (Kelly) and Bradley (Renee); sister Mary Ellen Talley (Ken); grandchildren Brad, Mike (Susannah), Nick (Jennifer), James (Danielle), Jill (Paige) and Ashley (Christopher); great-grandchildren Ellie, Madison, Arlo, Oscar, Joseph, Acacia, and Nicholas. She also leaves behind sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her spirit and flair.
Private services will be held at a later date with the family. A celebration of her life will also be held in Kerrville with her close friends at a future date. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
