Libbia Pansy Lewis was born on 26 January 1930 to the late Charlie Thomas Lewis and Libbia (Anderson) Lewis in Woodland, North Carolina. Ms Pansy, as she was affectionately called, departed her earthly life on 8 August 2023. Libbia proudly served in the Women’s Army Corps as a Med Technician during both the Vietnam and Korean War. She was a Medical Laboratory Technician from 1949 until her retirement from military service in 1971. She was one of the first black enlisted women to reach the rank of Master Sergeant in her career field. Despite joining the Women Army Corps in the middle of racial inequality she blazed a path for other African American Women and Men to follow. Her military decorations include the Army of Occupation of Germany Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Good Conduct Medal 3rd Award. Libbia furthered her education after military retirement at San Antonio College obtaining an associate degree in science. She also continued to work as a Medical Lab Specialist at Southeast Baptist Hospital from 1971 until retirement in 1992. Ms. Pansy was an avid Dallas Cowboy and San Antonio Spurs Fan all her life. She really enjoyed reading during her spare time and was a cat and dog lover. Ms Pansy was an independent family woman who believed with hard work the American Dream could be achieved. She was very humble and if you needed anything, even a place to lay your head, her door was always open. She touched so many lives and motivated others to achieve their American Dream. She was a member of The National Association of Black Military Women, Disabled American Veterans and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 8541.
Libbia is preceded in death by her brothers, Kelley Lewis, Thomas Lewis; sisters, Alegray Majette Bernice Onque, Alma Mosley; niece, Yolanda Lewis; great niece, Danielle Etheridge and great nephew, Roderick Elliot.

Your mother was one of the precious ‘motherly’ jewels we all grew up with in Meadowview. Miss Pansy was pretty, smart, funny and stable. I really enjoyed talking to her!! She was a free-spirit and so full of love and generosity towards everyone. I appreciate the Christmas gifts she gave to my Niece Aniyah. I’ll miss ringing her doorbell hoping she’ll hear me (smile).💝
