Lloyd D. Johnson

With hearts filled with love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Lloyd D. Johnson, a loving son, devoted father, proud grandfather, beloved brother, faithful church member, and cherished friend. Lloyd entered eternal rest on July 30, 2026, at the age of 62.

Born on September 4, 1963, in San Antonio, Texas, to Beverly and Velma (New) Johnson, Lloyd was blessed with a kind heart, a great sense of humor, and a personality that could brighten any room. He never met a stranger and had a special way of making people feel welcome and loved.

Lloyd was educated in the San Antonio Independent School District. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and remained a faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church for 62 years. His faith was an important part of his life, and he faithfully served the Lord through his love of music. Lloyd loved to sing and used his God-given voice to praise the Lord as a member of the church choir. He was also a self-taught musician, sharing his natural talent and love of music with those around him.

God blessed Lloyd with many other talents beyond music. He had a natural ability to work with his hands and a passion for working on cars. This passion led him to land his first diesel mechanic job with Stewart and Stevenson. He worked for Stewart and Stevenson until he was injured but that did not stop him from doing what he enjoyed doing. He could often be found plowing through his pain and under the hood of a vehicle, determined to figure out what was wrong and find a way to make it right. He took pride in being able to fix just about anything with an engine. His patience, determination, and willingness to help others made him someone people could depend on.

Lloyd was a man of many gifts. In his younger years, he was a bodybuilder, reflecting the strength, discipline, and perseverance that were part of his character. He also enjoyed watching his favorite teams, the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys, and sharing those moments with family and friends.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Beverly and Velma (New) Johnson; his brothers, Beverly Johnson, Jr. and Samuel Johnson; his nieces, Kynyatta Daniels, Vinyatti Johnson and Journee Rector; nephew, Anthony Simmons Jr.; and his cousin, Ron Wells.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, LaShanda Johnson; grandson, Lloyd Johnson; siblings, Joyce (Eugene) Gibbons, Lena (James) Daniels, Michael (Sandra) Gibbons, Barbara (Clarence) Sweeney, James (Beverly) Johnson, Curtis (Terri) Johnson, and Robin Johnson; his dear friend of more than 55 years, Stephen Togo; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, church family, and dear friends

Today, we grieve Lloyd’s passing, but we also celebrate the life God gave him. We find comfort in knowing that Lloyd’s faith has taken him home to his Heavenly Father. The voice that once sang praises at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church is now singing in Heaven, free from pain and sorrow.
