Lonnie F. Roberts

Mr. Lonnie F. Roberts was born on February 16, 1927 to Reverend John Fulton Roberts, Sr.and Mrs. Lucy Bynes-Roberts in Sardis, Georgia. He was the first child born to this union. He was preceded in death by his brothers John Fulton Roberts, Jr., Douglas Roberts, Dennis Roberts and son, Raymond Walker. Lonnie grew up in Sardis, Georgia but moved to New York at an early age to find employment. Lonnie (PawPaw) at the age of 89, went to be with the Lord peacefully, yet unexpectedly, on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Coronado at Stone Oak rehabilitation facility surrounded by his family, He was married to the late Lottie Mae Washington Roberts who preceded him in death. They moved from Georgia to Brooklyn, New York, started their family. Lonnie began working for Williamsburg Steel Company in 1948 as a foreman for over 40 years. The company underwent numerous name changes to include Triangle Steel and Acme Steel. The mergers were on-going but Lonnie was the constant in the organization. Lonnie later moved to New Jersey where he wed Marie Baxley Roberts. He made the daily commute to New York continuing his career. Lonnie worked until his 66th birthday and decided it was time for retirement, He then moved to Virginia Beach with his family, until he lost his wife, Marie. He moved in 2003 to San Antonio, Texas where he lived with his son (Manuel) and daughter-in-law (Cindy) and grandson that was named after him, Lonnie B. He enjoyed watching a westerns, the METS baseball and talking on the phone to his friends and family. He enjoyed traveling and visiting his military family in California, Florida, Germany, and Michigan. His favorite place to visit for his birthday was Las Vegas. He leaves to cherish and treasure many unforgettable memories to his children Janice Faye Ellison, Brooklyn, NY; Manuel Roberts (Cindy) San Antonio, TX; Ruby Broom (Melvin) Chesapeake, VA; Daughter-in-Law Mamie Walker, Patterson, NJ; Siblings and spouses: Aaron Roberts (Maria Jesus) Highland Park, CA; Catherine Roberts; Marie Hannah Roberts McCordsville, IN; Samuel Roberts (Freda) Highland Park, CA; Lola Gillett Augusta, GA; Eunice Barnes Augusta, GA; Sister-in-Law Gloria Roberts Baltimore, MD. Raised like family were Exie Green, Lucy Kendrick, Jane Mason and James Mason. Grandchildren: Geniene Ellison(Terrance) Baltimore, MD; Lori Ann Pierce (Micah Patterson, NJ; Marquise Broom (Jessica) San Antonio, TX; Tasha Ellison Jersey, City, NJ; Randy Walker (Stephanie) Patterson, NJ; Shavonne Broom, San Antonio, TX; Lonnie B. Roberts (Shawanda) San Antonio, TX. Great Grandchildren: Shalon, Shannie, and Lonnie B. Roberts, Jr; Jair Wynter; Kiann Barrett, Jasmine and Micah Pierce; Monte and Shyanne Broom; Katrele Greene and Jada Walker. Great Great Grandchild: Jasir Wynter.
