It’s with a heavy heart that I want all of Lonnie Haller’s family and friends to know that he had a peaceful passing from this world on Sunday, July 2nd, 2023. He was 83 years old and the love of my life. I will miss him terribly.
Those of you who knew him know that he was one of a kind. No one comes close to all of his accomplishments.
In the 60’s he bought 138 acres south of San Antonio, cleared the land, erected a magnificent horseshoe entry, and then built a beautiful white ranch house. All the while he kept the trees trimmed and the pastures mowed. Anyone passing the ranch headed to Corpus Christi noticed how immaculate his property was.
If that wasn’t enough, he built a cabin in Colorado for our summer getaways. Then back at the ranch, he had to do more. He built a saloon, a jail, 2 chuckwagons, an old-time gas station and the most lovely chapel you’ve ever seen.
Of course, Lonnie wasn’t finished. Over a 2-year period, he built 6 hotrods. He loved taking them to car shows.
In spite of all his hard work, he found time to go snow skiing, which he dearly loved, going to our cabin in Colorado, and enjoying our beautiful Australian Shepherd dogs.
I have never met such a hard-working man as Lonnie. Yes, he could be eccentric, but he had a heart of gold.
What I especially loved was his beautiful, beautiful smile.
Lonnie was simply amazing. I truly believe he is leaving behind an extraordinary legacy for himself and those who knew him.
He was an exceptional man! I will forever love him and miss him!
Lonnie was a great man and a great friend! When you got to spend time with him, you felt like the most important person. He was always so interested in what was going on in your life. He was so interesting to listen to and one of the most talented men we’ve ever met. He could tackle any job and figure out the solution. He was also very humble about all his accomplishments. We will truly miss our special time together with Lonnie and Karen at the cabin in Colorado. Rest well, dear friend! Love, Greg and Sandy Smith, your Sheep Mountain neighbors
hugs, prayers and love from Abilene
Lonnie is so very greatly missed. He was one of the hardest working, creative, accomplished men I have met. So many moments and conversations I will remember. Rest In Peace, Lonnie.
Lonnie was and will always have a special place in mine and my familie’s hearts. We’ll never forget the kindness and friendship you both extended to us. You allowed us to exchange our wedding vows in the lovely chapel he built and for that we are forever grateful. The times we spent together were few and far between but they are cherished. Until we meet again Lonnie. May God bless you and your family.
Incredibly saddened to hear about Lonnie’s passing. It was such an honor to call him friend. Your humor and laugh will be missed.
I miss Lonnie. He was a good friend and a neighbor in Colorado. I miss so much, our conversations of solving all the problems of the world, …we would say.
Our time together was short but everlasting. Your stories, poems, love of animals and Karen will remain I miss you!
I will always love my great friend, Lonnie. I will miss our long talks about every thing from recipes to current events. Karen I so admire your strength and wonderful attitude about your loss. I can just hear Lonnie saying, ” I told you my sweet wife was a strong women. How else could she have lived with me?” Karen, I love you and will alwways love Lonnie and all the cherished memories I have of our times together.

Sad to say that now Our SGHS Class of 1957 will have to gather together without the antics of one of our own class comics. But we will manage because we always have and always will. Lonnie added quite the punch to our St Gerard family. Actually the next SGHS reunion will be beyond the pearly gates and on the streets of gold, as there are many of our mates now in Heaven. God love you, Karen, stay strong and thank you for taking care of him, We will all miss him and now we will let him REST IN PEACE.
Mr. Haller was a patient of mine. I enjoyed his conversations. We talked about St. Gerards and his ranch. I regret not ever having gone to visit. I knew he was special, such a kind soul. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. I know this has left a huge hole in your hearts. May God send his angels to give you comfort in your time of need.

I didn’t know Lonnie well, but I always enjoyed talking to him when I saw him at events hosted by John. He was an exceptional man indeed. May he rest in peace.
Down to Earth, and a good man. Talented beyond words. I had the pleasure and honor of meeting lonnie in about 1994. In his book, everyone as a friend and he treated everyone that way. My most sincere condolences to all family and friends.
I always loved talking with Uncle Lonnie. He was such a special man and always had wise advice for me.
Love y’all bunches!
