CELEBRATING A LIFE Lucille Hawkins was born in LaVernia, Texas on March 10, 1918 to the late Bryant and Ida Brooks. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. G.T. Burley of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in 1927. In 1940 she joined Antioch Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member of the choir. She attended school at Douglas. Lucille along with her family, moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1923. For years she worked in the food service industry. Cooking was one of her favorite things to do. Continuing to work here in San Antonio, she gave birth to her son, William T. Brooks. On September 4, 1947, she happily married Sam J. Hawkins. To this union was born her daughter, Shirley Marie Hawkins. Later in her life, she was employed with several city community organizations. Always believing education is an important part of life, Lucille attended evening classes and received her GED at age 82. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam J. Hawkins and her parents, Bryant and Ida Brooks. A LIFE WELL LIVED Lucille was called home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Saturday morning, November 9, 2013 and is survived by: her son, William (Bill) Brooks; daughter-in-law, Elaine Brooks; daughter, Shirley Marie Collins; son-in-law, Rodney Collins; two sisters, Olivia Moody, Esther Swain; three grandchildren, Raecene Collins of Lewisville, Texas, Bryan Brooks, Brandon Brooks, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
