Margaret Garza Vargas entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the age of 80. She was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas to Ramona Delgado Garza and Rudolph C. Garza and was the eldest of 8 children.
Her father, Rudolph Garza, was the first Hispanic sheriff of Bexar County from 1978 to 1980. She graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School in 1959. After graduation, she worked at the county’s Tax Collector-Assessor’s Office.
Margaret was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very artistic working with oil paintings and ceramic pottery. She was a proud and long-time resident of the South Side, where she enjoyed playing Bingo with friends. Margaret was an avid San Antonio Spurs fan, as well as a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecilio Mazuca Vargas Jr; and her brother, Rudy Garza. Margaret will be dearly missed by her children: Cynthia Lopez; Michael Vargas and his wife, Marisela; Daniel J. Vargas and his partner, Jerrid Luebke; Monica Vargas; and Jason Vargas and his partner, Yarazet Richter; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; siblings: Tommy Garza, Teresa Garza, Esther Johns, Leo Garza, Joe Garza, Roland Garza; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 5 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m.
Funeral Service will be Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 10 a.m.
The family strongly recommends those in attendance wear face masks when indoors.
