Margaret Rose Leyva

Margaret Rose Leyva, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 93. She was born on November 11, 1931 in Liverpool, England to John Frederick Duddy and Rose Levin Duddy.

Margaret lived a life full of love, devotion, and grace. She was a devoted housewife for most of her life and found joy in caring for her family. In Liverpool, she married the love of her life, Michael Merced Leyva, with whom she shared a partnership built on love and mutual respect. Margaret was a true matriarch of her family, always making sure those around her felt cared for and supported.

Margaret was especially proud of her great-grandchildren: Caitlynn, Samantha, Curtis and Angelica. She found immense joy in watching them grow and flourish, and she left behind a lasting legacy of love and wisdom. She is preceded in death by her dear husband, Michael Merced Leyva, and her brother, John Freddy Duddy.

A kind and loving woman, Margaret’s gentle spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her family and friends take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with her husband and those who have gone before her.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Victoria (Vicky) Gowitzke, and her husband, Glenn Gowitzke; her son, Merced John Leyva (Jack); her cherished grandson, Curtis Halsey; great-grandchildren, Caitlynn Rose Halsey, Samantha Halsey, Curtis Halsey Jr., and Angelica Halsey.   Sister, Mrs. Mary George (formerly Duddy), and her brother-in-law, Edward George. She also leaves behind a number of beloved nieces and nephews, Debbie Leonard, John Duddy, Steven Duddy, and Anthony Duddy; sister-in-law, Minerva “Minnie” Garcia (Leyva), extended family and friends.

Rest in peace, Margaret. You will forever be in our hearts.
