Maria E. "Hopie" Salazar

maria salazar
Maria E. Salazar, known lovingly as “Hopie”, passed away January 2, 2022. She was born May 18, 1954 in San Antonio, Texas. Maria started her career in education as a substitute teacher and then later became a teacher’s assistant with the San Antonio Independent School District for 17 years, where she later retired from. After her retirement, Maria pursued her passion and would sing karaoke any time she had the chance to. The greatest joy in her life, however, were her grandchildren and spending time with them. Maria will be dearly missed by all those whose life she touched. She is preceded in death by her mother, Isidra Dominguez. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Javier (Desiree) Salazar, Oscar (Dora) Salazar and Esteban (Lorraine) Benitez Jr.; grandchildren, Amber Rose Salazar, Ezekiel “EJ” Salazar, Michael Salazar, Alicity Benitez, Kiley Benitez and Esteban Benitez III; extended family and friends. “The light in the room that all enjoyed has now been extinguished, but the eternal flame of her heart will now burn brightly for all to remember.”
