Marina Garza de Simental passed away peacefully by her family’s side on Thursday, October 15, 2020. She was born on November 27, 1925, in the seaport city of Mazatlán in the state of Sinaloa. Her parents were Otilio and Francisca Simental. Marina lived most of her life in Laredo, Texas where she and her husband Jose Garza owned and ran a The Hotel Garza. Together they had twelve children: Minerva Garza Flores, Jesus Garza, Ofelia Guzman, Fernando Garza, Lucinda Beaudoin, Jose Garza Jr., Lourdes Pedraza, Margarita Morales, Adolfo Garza, Norberto Garza, Guadalupe Garza-Brown and Ana Garza-Martinez. Marina enjoyed keeping a very tidy house and in her later years developed a love of gardening. She had the most enormous fig trees one has ever seen, and they were the juiciest and sweetest one has ever tasted. She was not a big fan of cooking, but when she did, you were sure to lick the enchilada sauce off your fingers or run and have seconds of her capirotada. She had a great love for all her children, however, the love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren was without compare. A future Celebration of Marina’s life is in order. Date to be announced.
